Winter Activities Families Can Do Together

by Suzy

Winter is the perfect time for families to get together and have some fun. No matter what age you are the magic of building a snowman, sledding or skiing down a wintry slope never gets old. Whether you prefer the warmth of your own home or the winter wonderland outside, there are plenty of fun and exciting activities for families to do together in the wintertime.

Ice Skating

Ice skating is a fun activity the whole family can enjoy together. Whether on a frozen pond or an indoor skating rink, ice skating is a great activity for parents and children alike. Ice skating is an excellent form of exercise and is a fantastic way to get out of the house on a snow day. Skaters on outdoor rinks should take caution of thin ice and other hazards, although this is not a concern for indoor rinks. No matter where you go, ice skating is sure to be fun for all ages.

Sledding

Sledding is another great winter activity that families can enjoy together. Simply get a sled, find a snowy hill and slide away! Be sure to supervise children when sledding and keep a close eye out for hazards like trees or rocks along a sledding path. A winter activity that never gets old, sledding is great fun for both parents and kids of all ages.

Build a snowman

Who hasn’t heard the legendary tale of “Frosty the Snowman?” Parents and kids can build their own version of Frosty and even entire snow families. Make sure to bundle up with hats and winter jackets before heading out to build a snowman. The iconic snowman consists of three large snowballs as well as some coals for a mouth, a carrot for a nose and a black top hat. Of course, families are free to build their own snowmen however they see fit. A fun activity that brings the whole family together, building a snowman is one of the best outdoor winter activities.

Skiing

Skiing and other winter sports are a great way for families to spend time together and bond. There are countless ski resorts all across the country that offer slopes for skiers of all levels. These include Aspen Ski Resort in Colorado, Blue Mountain Ski Area in Pennsylvania, Killington Ski Resort in Vermont and many others.

Indoor Activities

Being snowed in isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Staying at home with the family is a good time to bond. For example, you could get some magnets and some small toys from a store. From there, you guys can get together and make some customized magnets from scratch.

For families who dislike the cold, winter is the perfect opportunity to stay inside and make some Christmas cookies and other tasty winter treats. It’s a great way to spend time with your kids and make something yummy.

Whether you prefer to stay inside in winter or venture outside, there are plenty of fun activities the whole family can enjoy together.

Fun Things You Can do With Your Kids

by Suzy

Kids are just little people and love to have fun just like you do. That being said the imagination is the only limit to the travels you and your kids are setting out on. Do not be afraid to let yours run a little wild with the kids. On a hike imagination is a way to turn the long walk into an adventure to untold places were only good things happen and great times had by all.

Camping is one real way to have great fun in the out of doors. The wonders that are present in nature and teaching your children about them can be rewarding and fun. Relaxing in the sun or reading a book watching the wild life. Just taking in the fresh air throwing a ball or Frisbee. Sitting up around the campfire telling ghost stories until the early hours of the morning roasting marsh mellows and hot dogs.

Fishing can be the most fun a parent can have with a child building memories of “do you remember when . . .?” So many funny things can happen while fishing like getting so excited that you fall out of the boat. Or after you launch your boat you get to the dock to discover that you forgot to put in the plug. Looking around for anybody that might have noticed only to see the kids trying not to laugh. Late night bottom fishing is the best time to catch up with what is going on in your kids lives that can be fun for both of you.

Cooking with your kids can also be a great experience, one that can bring warm feelings inside and out. It will be rewarding to your child to learn how to cook at a young age and will teach them something they can use for the rest of their lives. Another way is to go to a cooking class with your kid where you can both learn how to try to cook something new. A quick search for example “cooking lesson san francisco” can find you a great cooking class that will be great for you and your children. Cooking will bring you and your children closer together through food, who doesn’t love food.

The county fair when it comes to town is not to be missed. Exhibits and side shows at the fair can be fun to look at together and be educational as well, but the real fun is on the midway. The action and atmosphere found on the midway still brings out the kid in all of us. Playing the penny arcades and all the other booth games on the midway with the kids is a fun way to interact and laugh with them. Balloons are harder to pop with a dart than they look and the milk bottles may be smaller targets than you remember. Being able to laugh with your kids at yourself is really a rewarding experience. After all it is amazing just how hard it is to land a ring on the neck of a soda bottle. The one in the group that does is destined to be remembered for it.
